We are saved by God’s grace, not by completing a religious checklist. But the grace that saves us also calls us into a new life. Jesus does not only invite us to agree with truths about Him. He calls us to trust Him, follow Him, and learn to live as His people.
To repent is to turn from sin and self-rule toward God. To believe is more than admitting that Jesus exists; it is trusting the crucified and risen Son as Lord and resting in what He has done to save us. We come with empty hands and receive salvation as God’s gift.
; ; ;Jesus commanded His disciples to baptize those who follow Him. In baptism, a believer publicly confesses belonging to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Romans 6 connects baptism with being united to Jesus Christ in His death, burial, and risen life; Christians differ over how precisely baptism relates to the moment of salvation, but the New Testament never treats it as an empty or optional gesture. The water does not purchase God’s grace. Baptism is the God-given response of faith by which a disciple openly identifies with Jesus and His people.
; ;The Christian life cannot be lived by human effort alone. God gives the Holy Spirit to dwell in His people, assure us that we belong to Him, help us resist and put away sin, form the character of Jesus in us, and empower us to speak about Christ. We walk by the Spirit by trusting His presence, filling our minds with the Scripture He inspired, praying for His help, obeying what He makes clear, turning away from desires that oppose God, and practicing the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control He produces. Walking by the Spirit is not passive and it is not earning God’s favor; it is daily dependence expressed through faithful choices.
; ; ;Followers of Jesus remain in His word and speak honestly with God in prayer. Scripture teaches us who God is, renews our minds, corrects us, and equips us to live faithfully. Prayer is not a performance; it is life with our Father through the Son and by the Spirit.
; ; ;Christians are not meant to follow Jesus alone. The first believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. A faithful local church helps us worship, learn, use our gifts, receive care and correction, and love one another in real community.
; ;Obedience does not earn Christ’s love; it grows from receiving it. Jesus makes love the identifying mark of His disciples. As His Spirit changes us, we forgive, serve, tell the truth, care for those in need, seek holiness, and love even our enemies.
; ; ;New believers do not become instantly mature or never struggle again. When we sin, we do not hide from God or pretend. We confess it, receive His faithful forgiveness, turn back toward Him, and continue walking in the light. Growth is a lifelong work of God’s grace.
; ;Every follower of Jesus becomes part of His mission. We bear witness to what Christ has done, live in a way that displays His love, and help others learn to obey Him. We do not pressure people into an argument; we faithfully point them to the Son who gives life.
; ;The Christian life is not a ladder by which we climb toward God. It is a life of trusting, following, and becoming like the Son who came down to bring us to God.
